The long-awaited, big-budget follow-up to Band Of Brothers and The Pacific will land on Apple TV+ early next year. Now, a second trailer for Masters Of The Air has been released.
Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Barry Keoghan, Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, Rafferty Law, Josiah Cross, Branden Cook, and Ncuti Gatwa star. The story is based on Donald L. Miller’s nonfiction novel that follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the Bloody Hundredth) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany.
They grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen, and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air, while the series will also explore the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich.
The 100th Bombardment Group (Heavy), was an Eighth Air Force B-17 Flying Fortress unit in England, stationed at RAF Thorpe Abbotts. Flying over 300 combat missions, the group earned two Distinguished Unit Citations (Regensburg, 17 August 1943; Berlin, 4/6/8 March 1944). The group suffered tremendous losses in combat, with 177 aircraft missing in action (MIA), flying its last mission on 20 April 1945.
Today they are known as the 100th Air Refuelling Wing, flying KC135 Stratotankers. One of the wing’s honors is that it is the only modern USAF operational wing allowed to display on its assigned aircraft the tail code (Square-D) of its World War II predecessor.
The project comes from the same team as the earlier entries, with executive producers Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman producing for Apple Studios, Amblin Entertainment, and Playtone.
John Orloff wrote the script with Cary Fukunaga, Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck, Dee Rees, and Timothy van Patten directing episodes. Graham Yost executive produces.
Masters Of The Air will premiere with two episodes on January 26th and then drop new episodes weekly through March 15th.
