Poor Ethan Hunt has been through a lot over the past few Mission: Impossible movies. It looks like he’s going to go through more in the last of the series, Final Reckoning.
In a world full of very obvious green screen and CGI, it is nice to know that it was Cruise hanging off the side of a plane, flying precariously close to a cliff face. Say what you will about Cruise, but he doesn’t phone it in.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is said to be the last of the M:I movies. I’m pretty sure Cruise won’t be back for more. He’s now 63 and he can’t carry on doing stunts like this.
This new trailer for Mission: Impossible 8 does look like a huge finish to the series, more incredible stunts, action sequences and that iconic music. Ethan has to take on the Entity, the powerful AI program, which was from M:I – Dead Reckoning.
Most of the crew are back for Final Reckoning, Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Venessa Kirby, Tramell Tillman, Hanna Waddingham, Katy O’Brian, Shea Whigham, Angela Bassett, Simon Pegg, Pom Klementieff, Ving Rhames, Janet McTeer, Holt McCallany, Esia Morales, Henry Czerny, Indira Varma and Nick Offerman.
Christopher McQuarrie is back in the director’s chair. This will be the fourth Mission: Impossible movie he’s directed and the fifth time he’s worked with Cruise. He also directed the first of the Jack Reacher movies with Cruise.
Cruise has teased that the stunts in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning are just as breathtaking as the last one. It includes an underwater sequence in a submarine and a scene where he dangles from a plane.
“When you stick your face out [of an airplane], going over 120 to 130 miles an hour, you’re not getting oxygen. So I had to train myself how to breathe. There were times I would pass out physically; I was unable to get back into the cockpit.”
Silly sod! This might be a cinema movie, though; the action sequences are always impressive.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will be in theatres on the 23rd of May.
