Eddie Murphy has been quiet since Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Now, according to a report in Deadline, he has lined up a future project in the form of Blue Falcon. This is an action comedy at Sony Pictures, with London Has Fallen writer Chad St. John spinning up the script.
In Blue Falcon, which we presume is a code name, Murphy will play a retired superspy who heads for the destination wedding of his estranged son. There, he finds himself in the vicinity of his archrival, and their conflict explodes again while the guests gather.
Murphy, John Davis, Cliff Roberts, and Charisse Hewitt-Webster produce. St John comes straight off the Alan Ritchson-led Motor City.
Murphy will get on this straight after he finishes working with his Dreamgirls director Bill Condon on the Parliament Funkadelic founder George Clinton’s biopic. Shrek 5 is also spinning up, so of course he will return as Donkey.
Movies like this are only as good as the villain, so who plays opposite Murphy will be absolutely key.
Murphy will also be the subject of a Netflix feature documentary. According to their release, EDDIE will chronicle his meteoric rise from teen comic to Saturday Night Live breakout and then his stand-up rise, to his breakthrough in movies. It is described as “an intimate portrait”.
Murphy won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor and received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of soul singer James “Thunder” Early in Dreamgirls.
