Sometimes, just sometimes, you hear of a movie project and some of the names attached to it and you think “that’s actually perfect!” So it is with Outrun.
The 1980’s staple video game, from huge Ferrari shaped cabinet to Sega Master System, is to be adapted into a movie.
Michael Bay is attached to direct and Sydney Sweeney will produce.
Bay will bring his trademark Bayhem to the project, and Sweeney is a confirmed petrol head.
Bay will also produce alongside Brad Fuller under their Platinum Dunes banner. Sweeney is only producing at present, and is not locked to star… but we predict that is likely to change. She won’t be able to resist.
The project is early in development with no date locked yet.
Sega’s Toru Nakahara will also produce, and Jayson Rothwell is onboard as writer.
The classic racing game featured the standard countdown clock, but was famous for its selectable music.
It was also famously one of Sega’s most profitable titles due to the small team and fast development time.
Video game adaptions are hot property again. After years in the doldrums as a genre, recent hits like the Mario movie, Sonic The Hedgehog and now Minecraft mean studios will once again “monkey see, monkey do” each other.
