The 80s were great, it was a simpler time, music was cool and movies were (mostly) the best of all time. One movie I remember loving was Biggles: Adventures in Time.
Biggles was a fictional flying ace from World War I. Originally a series of books by Captain W E Jones. He had all sorts of adventures which mostly involved battling the Germans in the air, in daring dogfights in early biplanes.
In the movie, they decided to add a time travel element. Jim Ferguson is an executive for a catering company, but he finds himself transported back in time and space to the front lines of World War I. He meets the flying ace and helps him fight a new German weapon and win the war.
The actual story is silly, but then, a lot of movies are if you think about them too much. What Biggles is, though, is a ripping adventure movie and great fun. Biggles stars Alex Hyde-White, Neil Dickson, Fiona Hutchison, Marcus Gilbert, William Hootkins, Francesca, and Peter Cushing. It was the last movie Cushing made before he passed away.
I’ve made a video about how it’s overlooked and a fun piece of entertainment. It won’t be remembered by everyone, but I know, 11-year-old me loved it and watched the VHS video to death.
Do you remember Biggles? Did you like it? Would you watch it again or rather leave it as a fond memory?
