Peacemaker season 1 was firmly anchored in the old DCEU. We know this due to links with The Suicide Squad and the appearance of the Justice League in the season finale, complete with speaking roles for Aquaman and The Flash.
So how the hell is season 2 of Peacemaker going to link in to all that while being part of the new DCU with its shiny new Superman and upcoming other new versions of characters?
Predictions of multiverse shenanigans and other such trickery have been made. We should probably expect something like that at some point, as teased in the full trailer for Peacemaker season 2 that dropped online a few days ago:
As far as delination goes, Gunn has posted a video on social media where he makes it clear where the DCU starts and what is canon.
my show is canon. and i’ve always said that. pic.twitter.com/e4Q2bP2kut

He re-confirms that the new DCU started with Creature Commandos, then Superman, then Peacemaker season 2. That’s canon. He also says that anything they talk about in any of those things as having previously happened is canon. Anything they reference in the form of a “Previously seen” flashback or story update is canon.
So, as he specifically mentions in the video, the death of Rick Flagg on Corto Maltese is canon, as it was mentioned in Creature Commandos. So it is only canon if mentioned or seen from Creature Commandos onward.
My head still hurts.
Next year, Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface will be added to the DCU.
