Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands is getting largely positive reviews out there among the normos. Wrenage also liked it, with a few reservations. This is translating into a decent box office haul for the time of year, in this weird space between the end of the summer season and the festive holidays.
As of this morning, it is so far ahead of its projections that they are just a distant memory. It has $40 million domestic and another $40 million globally. Unless there is a spectacular fall-off, then Predator: Badlands will make its money back.
Going into the weekend, its numbers were projected to be around $25 million. The current take is a record opening for the franchise that doesn’t include an Alien. Proving that kids these days are useless and that we are entirely correct to just hate other people, it has a higher CinemaScore than the original.

This is all just as well, because the rest of the box office was comically woeful.
Regretting You was second with $7.1 million domestic, beating Black Phone 2 down into third with just $5.3 million. The faith-based Sarah’s Oil was fourth with a $4.5 million debut.
A wide release and Russell Crowe couldn’t propel Nuremberg any higher than fifth place with $3.8 million despite strong reviews.
Some big names completely failed to launch. Lynne Ramsey’s Die My Love was in eighth with $2.8 million domestic despite Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson on the marquee.
The Sydney Sweeney-led Christy didn’t have good jeans. Not even in the top ten, and just a $1.3 million debut.
The Running Man is out tomorrow, our last chance for some red meat entertainment before Wicked: For Good probably destroys all before it, despite this absolute bullshit happening on the red carpet over the weekend:
It’s a mistake. All of it.
