Questions From Outposters: Making An Indie Movie

The other day, I put up an article covering the latest project from a friend of the Last Movie Outpost, Nate Shepka. His new movie is Death Among the Pines.

I’ve stayed in touch with Nate, and we sometimes chat about how difficult indie movies are to make.  It isn’t just making the movie that is tough, but everything else too, and it all takes money – the production, the crew, the locations, the catering…

On top of that, they want their movie to be seen, which means having it marketed and distributed. In Hollywood, this is all budgeted. A movie might cost $100 million to make, but then they might spend another £50 million on marketing and distribution costs.

Nate makes his indie movies on a tiny budget, comparatively, in the region of between £250k and £500k. Hollywood pays someone that much to “write” things like The Last Jedi. It puts it in perspective, doesn’t it?

Nate’s said he’s happy to sit down with me and chat about what it takes to get an indie movie off the ground, all the way from the initial script to it streaming on any major platform.

Are there any questions you want me to ask Nate on your behalf? Is there anything you always wanted to know about making an indie movie? Don’t be childish and ask about the casting couch… I already have 4 pages of questions about that.

So, over to you, Outposters.
