What do you do when you turn out a pile of turgid old shite that completely fails to connect with its audience? Usually as a result of putting a chick in it and making her lame and ghey? You go dark and gritty in an attempt to look like you have learned your lessons! So that is what the second season of Amazon Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will do.
Let’s go dark!
Not that dark!
Charlotte Brändström, one of the directors of the new season, says they are tackling complaints of over-glossiness head-on. Brändström tells MovieZine that the show will go bleaker and grittier in terms of both look and tone:
“What I know and what I can say for a fact is that it’s going to be darker, and it’s going to be edgier and more character-driven. I still think that we have some very interesting episodes coming up.
I watched all of them over Christmas, just the cuts. I think it’s going to be a very good season. We tried to make it more gritty, a little bit more dirty I guess. And not in the image, but to make it as authentic as possible. We have some very surprising twists and turns in it as well.”
Prime Video has not yet revealed the launch date of Season 2 of Rings Of Power. The first season was a massive launch, but rumors say the numbers tailed off pretty heavily. Fan reviews were not kind.
Season one premiered just over a year after filming wrapped. Season 2 finished filming in June last year. If it repeats that pattern, we are looking at the end of this summer potentially.
