ROBOCOP TV Series On The Way

In the ‘They just can’t leave things alone’ category, it looks like Amazon is developing a TV series of Robocop.

Peter Ocko will serve as showrunner and James Wan is set to produce, under the banner of Atomic Monster. Ocko has produced series like Black Sails, Lodge 49, Elementary, Dead Like Me and The Office.

The official blurb for the series is:

A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.

Basically, it’s a story about a man who dies and they make him go back to work. Robocop first hit the screens back in 1987. I remember it well, in the UK, the movie was heavily cut because of the violence. A mate’s older brother got his hands on a dodgy US VHS import. Those were the days.

There was a Robocop 2 and 3. Irvin ‘Empire Strikes Back’ Kershner directed the second movie and Frank ‘300’ Miller wrote the screenplay. I could never get over how the sequel should have been a slam-dunk but just wasn’t.

Looking up Frank Miller, he worked on a video game called Robocop vs The Terminator. It was a side-scrolling shoot ‘em up and sounds awesome. I might see if I can find a copy.

The less said about the third Robocop movie the better. It’s the one where they replaced Peter Weller with Robert Burke and hoped no one would notice. We did notice though.

There was also a remake in 2014 starring Joel Kinnaman, but that is as well remembered as my last bowel movement.
