If you haven’t heard, but Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is in cinemas at the moment. It’s also reported to be the best movie in the history of cinema. Sadly, the Last Movie Outpost will only review it when it’s on streaming. That’s when you can get an honest review.
In the meantime, Coogler is the flavour of the month. He recently said that he is interested in rebooting X-Files, the classic sci-fi series from the 90s. In a recent interview, he said:
“I’m working on X-Files. That’s what’s immediately next… I’ve been excited about that one for a long time and I’m fired up to get back to it, and that, you know, some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f***ing scary.”
In fact, Coogler has spoken to one of the original cast members, Gillian Anderson. According to reports, Anderson hasn’t been officially cast, but she might do a cameo. Coogler’s aim is to make a new series for the original fans and hopefully make some new fans.
Anderson is asked about an X-Files reboot all the time, because we know people have zero imaginations. She said that she wouldn’t be back, but now that Coolger is on board, she might:
“Now, Ryan Coogler, who is the director of Black Panther — brilliant, brilliant director — has approached Chris Carter to say that he wants to do a take on it, and I cannot think of a better way around for a reboot to happen. Whether I am involved in it is a whole other thing. I’m not saying no. I think he’s really cool and I think if he did it, it would probably be done incredibly well. And maybe I’ll pop in for a little something something.”
In other words, ‘If the money gets enough zeros, I’ll do it’. I wonder who Coogler is looking to play the Mulder character. I’m not a betting man, but I’m going to say Michael B. Jordan.
