Will Smith had everything in front of him; an interesting career, an Oscar and a lovely, faithful wife. Then one slap changed all that. His private life came to the fore and we now can’t help but feel a little sorry for him.
He made Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which kind of ‘came and went’, but Smith would like to make a couple more sequels for the movies Hancock and I Am Legend. One was from 2007, the other from 2008, and they are obviously due a squeal each, 18 years on.
Hancock
I can’t say I remember too much about Smith in Hancock. It was about an anti-hero and directed by Peter Berg, that was about it. The plot was:
Hancock is a superhero whose ill-considered behavior regularly causes damage in the millions. He changes when the person he saves helps him improve his public image.
Along with Smith, it starred Charlize Theron, Jason Bateman, Jae Head, Eddie Marson, David Mattey and Johnny Galecki.
On a recent Twitch live stream, Smith said:
“There’s a really cool Hancock 2 idea. We haven’t even talked about it. I’m going to give you one little piece. Zendaya [is] being approached for a role in Hancock 2.”
I Am Legend
Another character that Smith is looking to return to is Robert Neville, from I Am Legend. This is an odd one as, depending on the version you saw, Neville died in one of them. I forget which, but there was a theatrical version and then a director’s cut.
The story for I Am Legend is:
Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles valiantly to find a cure.
I remember liking it, very much like The Omega Man or The Last Man on Earth. In the live stream, Smith went on to say about I Am Legend 2:
“Yeah, that’s a real thing. Me and Michael B. Jordan, we sat down for about a week, just went through, you know, character stuff. Akiva Goldsman, is the writer, so, he’s putting it together. No, that’s a real thing.”
What do you think? Would you be up for Hancock or I Am Legend sequels?
