SPIDER-MAN 4 Looks At Familiar Director

It seems that there is a revolving door of talent involved with the MCU, and they all move around within the pool. A fourth Spider-Man movie has been on the cards for a while, and a familiar face from this pool has been targeted to direct it.

Jon Watts directed the first three movies in this series, then was in the chair for The Fantastic Four for a while, and was also being looked at for one of the upcoming Avengers sequels?

He decided he needed a break from superheroes for a while. Now, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton is reportedly in talks to direct this new instalment.

He already directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for Marvel, and is showrunner on Wonder Man. He was also attached to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty for a while. That revolving door revolves again.

Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker / Spider-Man. The last movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, ended with Doctor Strange engineering some multiverse shenanigans to ensure that the world forgot that Peter Parker was Spider-Man. In the process, it also meant his friends and even his girlfriend MJ forgot they ever knew him. Peace, but heartbreak at the same time.

It also finished at the point that high school was done, and the characters were all going off to college. It may be that the story is done with MJ, and this is a good point to introduce Gwen Stacey as his love interest.

Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are writing the script with Marvel head Kevin Feige and former Sony chief Amy Pascal as producers.

Cretton will also direct the Shang-Chi sequel, but that will come after Spider-Man 4 if he is attached.
