Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

STARFLEET ACADEMY Officially Cancelled

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, the much-maligned Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has been binned by CBS Studios and Paramount+.

The bad news: season 2 has already wrapped, after the show was optimistically renewed before season 1 aired.

The good news: YouTubers will have another season’s worth of hate watch material.

Here is the joint statement from CBS Studios and Paramount+:

We’re incredibly proud of the ambition, passion, and creativity that went into bringing Star Trek: Starfleet Academy to life. The series introduced audiences to a bold new group of characters, welcomed familiar faces, and expanded the Star Trek universe in exciting new ways. We’re grateful to Alex Kurtzman, Noga Landau, Gaia Violo, and the entire cast and crew who pushed storytelling boundaries in the spirit of Gene Roddenberry’s vision. We look forward to sharing the upcoming second and final season with everyone, and continuing to celebrate the cast, crew, and all that was accomplished with this series.

What a dishonest pile of crap. Let me sum it up more succinctly:

Bones Star Trek

Series showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau wrote a letter that’s even more insufferable, so I won’t print it here. They mention diversity a lot. They also hide behind Gene Roddenberry, insisting that this version of Star Trek represents his vision for the future.

But actions speak louder than words. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible. Will any of you brave Outposters who watched season 1 be disappointed? And with no new shows in development, where does Star Trek boldly go from here?
