STAR WARS Introduces The Sister

The creatives behind Star Wars seem intent on continuing to troll the fanbase they judge as “toxic”. The first transgender stormtrooper has been introduced in a move that has left fans of the formerly beloved sci-fi franchise divided.

Named “Sister”, she is clad in armor painted in the blue and pink of the transgender flag. The ‘trooper was first revealed in a new book released earlier this week – A Queen’s Hope – and was then the subject of some fan art.

Now her story and image have been featured in Star Wars: The Secrets of the Clone Troopers, and built out her backstory:

“When one of our kind expressed her gender identity differently than her fellow troopers, she [feared] she’d have to hide who she truly was inside. Fortunately, her brothers in the 7th Sky Corps gave her the name Sister as a constant reminder that she belonged.”

The new character’s addition has left Star Wars fans divided, with some branding it

“…utterly insane cult worship…”

Social media has been characteristically lively over this new character.

Meanwhile, across the divide, Them.us, which describes itself as the “best of what’s queer” has led with this headline:

“New Star Wars Book Has a Trans Clone Trooper, Much to the Fury of Transphobic Nerds.”

The lore states that Sister was created on the planet Kamino to fight for the Galactic Republic. Little is known about the character aside from she served alongside Anakin Skywalker. Sister is not the only transgender character Star Wars. Ceret and twin Terec, are ‘trans non-binary’ Jedi Knights who previously appeared in The High Republic 2 in 2021.

A post on the Star Wars Instagram for International Transgender Day of Visibility in 2021 later confirmed their pronouns and status as trans-non-binary.
