Superman is doing big numbers on streaming, and Peacemaker is coming to the end of its run. So the DCU is about to calm down, until the next summer season when Supergirl is released.
According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter the movie has already reached rough-cut form, and a special early screening was held on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank.
Present were James Gunn, a few from DC Studios leadership, and some Warner executives. is reporting today that work on the film is progressing fast – so much so that a rough cut has been screened internally.
So, of course, the internet is now full of the usual small leaks from the scooping community, and the word appears to be good. They praise the tone and say it balances the gritty with humor. CBM says they have, likewise, heard good things.
Craig Gillespie directs from a script by Ana Nogueira. Milly Alcock plays the lead role. We first saw her in a closing scene in Superman. In Supergirl, she will be on a jaunt with Krypto to another world to celebrate her 21st birthday. She gets mixed up with a young woman named Ruthye and becomes entwined in a murderous quest for revenge.
Supergirl co-stars Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle, Jason Momoa as Lobo, Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, and David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Kara’s parents Zor-El and Alura.
Supergirl is set for release on June 26th, 2026.
