And lo, for when the seal was opened and the signs of the apocalypse did spring forth, a million Swifties did cry out in triumph as Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl did top the box office.
The end of all things is here, surely.
Taylor Swift didn’t just top the domestic box office. She went global, too.

$13 million overseas, on top of $33 million domestic for $46 million global total. It opened in 54 overseas markets.
In second place was Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another.
It made another $21.7 million to take its global total to $101.7 million and become the first of his movies to break even $100 million.
Dwayne Johnson’s hotly tipped awards tilt The Smashing Machine pulled in only $6 million globally. Meanwhile something called Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie (no, no idea!) somehow stole 4th place, while pushing a global total up to $32 million.
Warners The Conjuring: Last Rites continues to astound with $9.3 million taking it to $458.2 million. Yes, I had to double check that number too.
Disney’s re-release of Avatar: The Way of Water did very little domestically at the box office, but made $6.8 million overseas. So, now we know who is to blame.
