Sky is going lavish, with a new adaptation of Peter Shaffer’s award-winning 1979 stage play Amadeus. Now they have released a teaser that gives us the first look at British actor/filmmaker Will Sharpe (The White Lotus) and Paul Bettany in their roles.
This is a limited series and from Black Doves and Giri/Haji writer Joe Barton.
Like the original work, it tells the story of the famous rivalry in 18th-century Vienna between manic prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Sharpe) and pious court composer Antonio Salieri (Bettany). Gabrielle Creey will play Constanze Weber. Salieri’s envy turns vengeful, and he will use any means necessary to thwart Mozart and protect his position within high society.

Barton wrote the series alongside Julian Farino. Alice Seabright directs. John Griffin, Megan Spanjian, Michael Jackson, and Stephen Wright executive produce the series.
Shooting was completed in Hungary. The play was adapted by Milos Forman in 1984 as a feature film, which became a critical darling, dominating the Oscars and winning Best Picture and Best Actor for F. Murray Abraham as Salieri.
The new Amadeus will launch on Sky in the UK in December.
