A new report over at The Insneider, then seemingly confirmed by Deadline, says that the star of FX’s The Bear – Jeremy Allen White – has joined The Mandalorian & Grogu. The report says he will provide the voice for Rotta the Hutt.
Anyone who knows far too much about Star Wars will know this was Jabba’s son, and that he was kidnapped in the Clone Wars, and subsequently rescued by Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano. He appeared in both The Clone Wars movie and the TV series.
Filming has already wrapped on The Mandalorian & Grogu, so the character will clearly be created in post-production, as you would expect for a Hutt.
Pedro Pascal returns as Din Djarin, with Sigourney Weaver in a supporting role. Very little else is known about the movie at this stage. Casting and character information remains strangely limited, even though there are reportedly 54 cast members and 3,500 extras. It is known that Zeb from Star Wars Rebels will appear again.
The movie is directed by Jon Favreau and co-written by Favreau and Dave Filoni. Favreau and Filoni had written the fourth season of The Mandalorian by February 2023, but production on the season was delayed by the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike and the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. During this time, Lucasfilm re-evaluated their plans for the franchise and decided to prioritize a Mandalorian film over the season.
The Mandalorian & Grogu will get a theatrical release on May 22nd, 2026.
