Well, this came out of nowhere! A trailer for The Bikeriders starring Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, and Jodie Comer looks effing fantastic! Directed by Jeff Nichols, who gave us Loving, Midnight Special, and Mud this movie has just shot straight to the top of my must-see movies this year.
The movie’s synopsis is:
Set over the course of the 1960s which was apparently the golden age of bike riders, a Midwestern motorcycle club evolves from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, threatening the original group’s unique way of life.
The Vandals
The Bikeriders is based on Danny Lyon’s 1968 book of black-and-white photos and follows a fictional Midwestern biker gang in 1965 Chicago called The Vandals. Tom Hardy, with another annoying accent, plays gang leader Johnny who by the looks of things becomes more dangerous and menacing as The Vandals grow in numbers and power over the course of the movie.
Butler stars as Benny, an untamable and handsome young whipper-snapper destined to be Hardy’s right-hand man. Benny is married to Kathy (Comer) who is the narrator of the movie that clearly looks like it’s been influenced by the works of Scorcese. We also get glimpses of Michael Shannon, Mike Faist, Boyd Holbrook, and Norman Reedus, so this film is absolutely chock full of talent!
The film recently opened the Telluride Film Festival and received critical acclaim. Its theatrical release is scheduled for 1st December. I can’t wait!
