So, now we finally get to see some of it. After the briefest of teasers before Superman that showed practically nothing, a full-throated reveal of Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey has happened in the form of a six-minute special preview in theaters, and the reaction is universal. It is jaw-dropping.
Usual health warnings apply to online early hyperbole, but if this holds, could massive-scale epic filmmaking be back on the menu, boys?
The movie doesn’t release until July 17th next year, and a full trailer will be attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash next weekend, but in the meantime, the preview can be seen before special IMAX screenings of Sinners and One Battle After Another.

The preview is said to be a full prologue that takes in the events of the Siege of Troy and the start of the legendary journey.
Odysseus, King of Ithaca, begins his journey home after the ten-year Trojan War. The trip was perilous, including encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe.
At home, Odysseus is presumed dead, and his wife Penelope and son Telemachus must contend with groups of unruly suitors who each want Penelope’s hand in marriage to control the kingdom.
The Odyssey is based on an ancient Greek poem by Homer.
Here are the reactions from those who ventured out to see the preview, helpfully collated by the industrious and most excellent fellows at JoBlo:
The Odyssey stars Matt Damon, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Mia Goth, Zendaya, Elliot Page, John Leguizamo, Samantha Morton, Ryan Hurst, Logan Marshall-Green, Lupita Nyong’o, Josh Stewart, Benny Safdie, Corey Hawkins, and Elyes Gabel.
It is the first movie to shoot entirely in IMAX, and deals are being struck with major exhibitors to install new equipment and make upgrades to support the showing of the movie in the best way possible for the technology used to create it.
