As we are now in the depths of the summer holidays in the Northern Hemisphere, it means studios and networks are turning their attention to their winter slates. This is why trailers and new season announcements will start to drop for all of our favorite shows, like The Old Man, which returns on FX.
The Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow-led series will kick off where the last season ended. Former CIA agent Dan Chase (Jeff Bridges) and former FBI Assistant Director Harold Harper (John Lithgow) have set out to recover Emily Chase (Alia Shawkat) after she was kidnapped by Afghan tribal leader Faraz Hamzad (Navid Negahban).
With all three men claiming her as their daughter, Emily finds herself in an identity crisis. As Chase and Harper fight their way to get to Emily, Hamzad is forced to make decisions that could endanger his family and his village.
His sister and advisor Khadija (Jacqueline Antaramian) is concerned about the path her brother has taken. Meanwhile, Zoe McDonald (Amy Brenneman) makes surprising moves after having been drawn into a new world by Chase, while Julian Carson (Gbenga Akinnagbe) is disillusioned by his former role and finds himself at a crossroads.
The series is based on the bestselling novel by Thomas Perry. The new run is very, very slightly longer than the frustratingly short season 1. This time it runs for eight episodes.
The Old Man returns September 12th on FX, or Disney+ outside the US.
