The Penguin is getting good notices, even among the notoriously difficult to please community of Outposters. Four episodes are now out and the fifth will prop at the weekend as the show enters its final leg.
The Batman spin-off series, which started its story minutes after the end of The Batman, is one of Max’s highest rated shows ever. It tells of the aftermath of the Riddler’s attack on Gotham, and the death of Carmine Falcone. Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb makes his move to seize power in Gotham’s criminal underworld, and this brings him into conflict with both Carmnine’s daughter Sofia, and other shadowy powers in the city.
Farrell is superb and clearly having fun underneath all the prosthetics, while Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone is the MVP, managing to portray a chilling psychopath bubbling underneath. The last episode introduced elements of The Hangman storyline from The Long Halloween and Dark Victory, two of the best regarded Batman stories of all time.
Ahead of the second half of the season beginning on Sunday a new mid-season trailer has been released. It shows significant escalation.
The Penguin co-stars Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, Rhenzy Feliz as Victor Aguilar, and Michael Kelly as Johnny Vitti. The finale airs on November 10th.
