Do you ever read a story synopsis, and then blink, think “Nah!”, and then read it again, just to convince yourself you weren’t hallucinating? Like the synopsis for The Sheep Detectives. It’s a whodunnit, a murder mystery, featuring sheep. Imagine the pitch meeting?
The film is actually based on an award-winning novel, by Leonie Swann from 2005 called Glennkill.
The story follows Hugh Jackman as shepherd George Hardy, who has a relationship with his flock that involves him reading them mystery stories aloud every night, assuming they can’t possibly understand.

What George doesn’t know is that his sheep aren’t just intelligent but quite self-aware and capable of speech. When he’s not around, they all bicker about the murder mystery for hours on end.
When George dies suddenly, the flock recognises that someone killed him and tries to solve his murder, leaving their meadow in pursuit of justice. As they follow clues and investigate human suspects, they prove that even sheep can be brilliant crime solvers.
Seriously. Am I on drugs?
