WESTWORLD To Get Movie Remake

The HBO series version of Westworld started magnificently, and then slid quite dramatically, to the point where the show was cancelled before a fifth season could air. This left is on something of a cliffhanger.

So you might expect a newly rumored movie to perhaps finish things off. Apparently not.

Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp is returning to a Michael Crichton source once more, but not to close off the show.

According to a report in Deadline, Koepp is going back to the original 1973 movie for his source, not he HBO series.

Westworld

Yul Brynner, Richard Benjamin, and James Brolin starred in the film, about an adult fantasy park that allows monied guests with a desire for the Old West to go up against robots wielding six-guns.

The vacation turns nightmarish when a crack-shot robot malfunctions and starts killing guests for real.

The television show went beyond this premise, and delved into questions of sentience and humanity and asked at what point does robotics and AI pass a point where they become, effectively, slaves.

Westworld was originally an MGM production, but Warner Bros. now own  the rights via the HBO series.

The story also says a”major filmmaker” is interested in the project.
