Based on the 2014 movie of the same name, by Jermaine Clement and Taika Waititi, the popular vampire comedy What We Do In The Shadows is to end on FX. The sixth season starts shooting in January, and that will be the final one.
Vulture has reported that the show will end. Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillen, Kayvan Novak, Mark Proksch, and Kristen Schaal will all return for this final season.
What We Do In The Shadows is a mockumentary in the same vein as The Office, only following the lives, or rather un-dead lives, of vampire roommates Nandor (Novak), Laszlo (Berry), Nadja (Demetriou) and Colin Robinson (Proksch) as they navigate the modern world of Staten Island with the help of their human familiar, Guillermo (Guillén), and their vampire bureaucrat acquaintance the Guide (Schaal).
Along with a large and committed fan base, the show show has received 21 Emmy nominations over its run including for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. It’s mix of pleasingly comedic gore with laugh-out-loud moments interspersed with real pathos and characters while poking good-natured fun at the vampire myths and legends, has been a big success.
The show finished airing its fifth season in August. Showrunner Paul Simms, Sam Johnson, Garrett Basch, and Eli Bush executive produce along with Clement and Waititi.
A sequel to the original movie was long discussed but this seems to have been shelved in favour of the now-ending show.
Whatever happens, we will always have this show, and Toast Of London.
