Universal’s Wolf Man is going through something of a rebirth right now. Universal’s Epic Universe has what looks like a spinning coaster with elements of dark ride being constructed in Orlando – The Curse Of The Werewolf.
The character is also getting a modern reboot from Aussie filmmaker Leigh Whannell.
I rate Whannell. Upgrade was tremendous fun and The Invisible Man was a really interesting reframing of that other classic Universal horror staple.
The only issue with any werewolf movie, though, is that it is only ever as good as the wolf. In this regard, An American Werewolf In London arguably still remains unbeaten. The Wolf Man in this… well, Houston we may have a problem.
You see, the movie had a showcase as a small part of the preparation for the Halloween Horror Nights takeover of Universal Studios. An actor appeared in a costume as part of the showcase and… well… you can see for yourself why the reception was not fully positive.
You could hope, if this is really from the movie, that he is in some state of transition. However, the teaser that has just dropped shows distinctly non-hairy hands in a few shots.
The teaser doesn’t show a huge amount more of the beast, but gives you a much clearer idea of the approach this adaption is taking.
Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, Sam Jaeger, and Matilda Firth co-star. According to the blurb, a man seeks to protect himself and his family from a dangerous werewolf at night during a full moon.
Universal and Blumhouse are missing Halloween this year, and instead, Wolf Man will arrive in cinemas on January 17th.
