Even Illumination is getting in on the act of poking fun at the MCU and its current challenges, As part of the advertising for Despicable Me 4, a one-minute promo has been released that specifically targets Marvel and the notion of interconnected, multimedia universes.
The promo even features an MCU-like timeline that promises fifty interconnected Megaminions stories shared across a variety of platforms for the next one hundred years.
Personal favorites promised by the timeline include Mega-Minions: Electric Gru-Galoo, and Mega-Minions: The Tax Write-Off.
There is more. They have even created a website offering potential viewers the chance to EnterTheMegaverse.com. Clearly this is working, as people are talking about it, including us. Well played, Universal marketing department. Well played.
Despicable Me 4 follows the returning Gru (Carrell) and Lucy (Kristen Wiig) along with Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Madison Polan) plus, of course, the minions, as they welcome Gru Jr. to the family. The child clearly has his father’s genes, as he seems intent on tormenting his father.
Gru will face new villains in the form of Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Sofia Vergara).
Despicable Me 4 opens in cinemas on July 3rd.
