Treat Williams has died after being involved in a motorcycle accident near Dorset, Vermont yesterday. Williams’s death was confirmed by his agent Barry McPherson last night. It is believed the driver of a car was turning and didn’t see the motorcycle Williams was riding. Dorset fire chief Jacob Gribble says Williams was the only casualty of the accident. McPherson said in a statement:
“He was killed this afternoon. He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off. I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented.”
Williams was 71 years old. Williams worked solidly throughout his career. He made his screen debut in 1975 in Deadly Hero and went on to star in The Eagle Has Landed, 1941, Once Upon a Time in America, Smooth Talk, and Heart of Dixie. He was nominated for a Golden Globe for both Hair and Prince of the City.
He would become a recognizable face again in the 1990s with an enjoyable turn as the villain in The Phantom alongside Billy Zane, as well as the lead in the well-regarded monster romp and guilty pleasure Deep Rising from Stephen Sommers. Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead, Mulholland Falls, and The Deep End of the Ocean would all follow. He would also appear in Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous, 127 Hours, Howl, 12 Mighty Orphans, Reaching for the Moon, What Happens in Vegas, and Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square.
On TV, he had the lead role of Dr. Andrew Brown in Everwood on the WB, and appeared in Heartland, White Collar, Chicago Fire, Chesapeake Shores, and Blue Bloods.
