Alien-Earth

ALIEN: EARTH Still Not Renewed?

Alien: Earth was a weird one. Just about everybody seemed to really enjoy the first couple of episodes. After that, critics remained enamoured with it, but general audiences seemed much less positive.

It became weekly sport around these parts to seemingly pull it apart, and the criticisms seemed valid and hard to argue with, even as a few hardy souls swam against the tide.

So it is probably fair to call it… divisive? It seems Hulu and FX may hear that, because they still haven’t made a renewal decisions, despite massive numbers.

Now, writer and showrunner Noah Hawley has spoken about where he would like to take season 2 if he gets the chance, and it centres on the five megacorps that now run the planet:

In an interview with Empire, he said the next season, if it comes, will expand beyond the island:

“I’m interested in exploring the corporate politics of it. As we’ve seen, there’s an irresistible gravitational pull toward monopoly that corporations and billionaires have.

There’s a bit of Game of Thrones to the corporate world that feels interesting to me. I do think this story of these children’s autonomy continues to be the heart of the show, but Alien is always about levels of containment.

The island is a level of containment, and what happens when you expand past that level? Ultimately, the show is called Alien: Earth. I know that, given the canon, I can’t blow up the Earth, but I do think that containment is going to be very hard to maintain.

Because it’s a story about humanity trapped between nature that’s trying to kill us and the technology we’ve created that also seems to be trying to kill us, that feels a lot like the world that I live in, and so I feel like there’s a lot there to really grapple with.”

For those of you who missed it, here is what the show presented us with as a view of the world carved up by these super-globo-corps.
