CinemaCon is on at the moment, all the bigwigs are there, everyone apart from the Last Movie Outpost. I think we’re too awesome to attend, well, something like that. Angel Studios has shown off a series of movies being released in 2026.
Runner
Do you know what costs a lot of money on the black market? Body parts. Well, that’s the story behind Runner, a new action movie starring Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson.
Explosions are good. Runner stars Ritchson, Wilson, Leila George, Rodrigo Santoro, Peta Sergeant, Jacob Hohua, and Thomas Larkin. Scott Waugh directs, with Miles Hubley and Tommy White taking on the writing duties. The story:
A high-end courier has three hours to transport a liver from Brisbane to the Gold Coast.
According to Waugh, the director:
“Partnering with Angel is a game-changer, because Runner is the kind of theatrical film audiences have been waiting for – big action, real heart, and a story that brings light into this world. When everything’s on the line to save a life, real men don’t run from the fire; they drive straight into it.”
That sounds like “management” talk; let’s run this up the flagpole and see if people salute, we need 110%, and other such cliched phrases.
Runner is due out on 11th September.
Angel and the Badman
I’m not big on Westerns, but it’s a genre that people seem to like. Angel and the Badman is a reimagining of a John Wayne classic from 1947, well, I say ‘classic’.
It’s only a teaser, but it might be fun. It’s always nice to see Tommy Lee Jones. Angel and the Badman stars Zachary Levi, Tommy Lee Jones, and Neal McDonough; that’s all that’s listed on the IMDb. In fact, the director or writer isn’t even listed yet. The story:
A notorious gunslinger stumbles onto a ranch expecting death but finds compassion instead. The rancher’s daughter gives him hope for redemption, but when outlaws threaten everything, he must choose between his past and a peaceful future.
Angel and the Badman is due out in October.
The Brink of War
War, what is it good for? A decent political thriller movie, for one thing. The Brink of War is the behind-the-scenes story of what went on at the Reykjavik Summit in 1986.
The Brink of War from Angel Studios has a great cast: Jeff Daniels, Jared Harris, J.K. Simmons, Aya Cash, Guy Burnet, Hope Davis, and John Ross Bowie. Michae Russell Gunn is the writer and director. The story is:
President Reagan races against time to make a deal with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev that could dismantle nuclear arsenals-or ignite disaster.
Having Harris in it, so it gets a pass from me. The movie is also known as Reykjavik.
The Brink of War, or Reykjavik, will be out on the 14th of August.
And the others from Angel
There are more movies from Angel Studios, which I’ll summarise.

- Zero A.D. – Tells the story of Mary as she gets pregnant and gives birth to the Jesus, all under the rule of the Romans. Due out at Christmas.
- Hershey – Tells the ‘powerful’ story of a man who overcame early failure, to go on and build an iconic brand. Due out in November.
- Young Washington – This is an historical biopic, telling the story of George Washington before the American Revolution. Due out on the 3rd July.
