TRANSFORMERS Has A New Writer

Is it a reboot? Is it a soft reboot? Is it a continuation? Who knows! What we do know is that It: Welcome to Derry writer Jason Fuchs has been locked in by Paramount and Hasbro to script a brand new, as-yet-unitled, Transformers movie. This is according to The Wrap.

The picture is made even more confusing by the fact that there are several other Transformers scripts in various stages of development for Paramount, including a G.I. Joe crossover. This was hinted at in the conclusion of Rise Of The Beasts when, in a post-credits scene, Anthony Ramos’ character Noah Diaz was offered a job with G.I. Joe.

Humans: squidgy

The crossover was being written by Derek Connolly (Jurassic World), so it is unclear where this new effort would fit into the whole scheme of things. Maybe they are just flinging their poop at the wall like zoo chimpanzees, and seeing what sticks? Maybe it is editorial lines like this that explain why we won’t be invited to the premiere? Anyway… I digress…

The Transformers franchise has always been commercially loved but critically despised. After a strong start, the franchise underwent a soft reboot of sorts as the lead cohort of human actors changed from being centred on Shia LaBeouf to Mark Wahlberg, while Michael Bay remained as director. There was also a prequel angle through Travis Knight’s Bumblebee and then Stephen Caple Jr’s Rise of the Beasts.

Whatever happens, executive Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy will remain constant, and Steven Spielberg will executive produce.
