Larry David has confirmed that the upcoming twelfth season of HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm will be its last. The series is ending after a run stretching back to 2000. The show is a critical hit with over fifty Emmy Award nominations.
The show ended once before, back in 2011 after eight seasons. In 2017 it was relaunched for a ninth season.
David stars as a fictionalized version of himself. It follows David’s life as a semi-retired television writer and producer in Los Angeles and, for one season, New York City. Also starring are Cheryl Hines as his wife Cheryl, Jeff Garlin as his manager and best friend Jeff Greene, Susie Essman as Jeff’s wife Susie, and J. B. Smoove as Larry’s housemate Leon Black. It often features celebrity guest stars, many of them playing fictionalized versions of themselves, including Ted Danson, Richard Lewis, Wanda Sykes, Rosie O’Donnell, and Jon Hamm.
David released a statement:
“As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character, and so ‘Larry David,’ I bid you farewell. In 2013, the Writers Guild of America ranked Curb Your Enthusiasm #30 on their list of the 101 Best Written TV Series. In 2016, Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone ranked Curb Your Enthusiasm as the 19th greatest television series ever made.
The seemingly final run of Curb Your Enthusiasm premieres February 4th on HBO.
