It has been 6 years since production on Not Time To Die wrapped, and after a COVID release delay, it has been over 3 years since it was released. A new James Bond feature has felt like it should be imminent for some time, but there has been no publicized movement at Eon Productions.
The producers were always open that they would take their time after the Daniel Craig era closed, but now as more time passes the inevitable jungle drums start once more. The industry is always rife with rumors, especially when the role of 007 is up for grabs.
The Hollywood Reporter has thrown some gasoline on the flames in a prediction piece from “industry experts” for 2025. In the article, Seth Abramovitch predicts that the new Bond will be named in 2025 and it will not be any of the previously discussed front runners.
This is usual for James Bond. Most of the names thrown out by casual observers are inevitably miles wide of the mark, with the choices frequently being unexpected.
Abramovitch names 34-year-old Josh O’Connor as the man in line for the tuxedo next.
He has steady work on British TV, including Ripper Street and Doctor Who. He played a young Prince Charles in The Crown, and recently starred in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers. What are the links?
He will star alongside Daniel Craig in the next Knives Out film. Craig remains close personal friends with the Bond producers. Craig and O’Connor also appeared in an Actors on Actors interview for Variety where they discussed Bond.
A recent favorite was Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but The InSneider reports he has recently fallen out of the running. The final say, as always, will belong to Barbara Broccoli.
