A New THE FLY Is Coming?

Remakes that are better than the originals… feels like a debate for the future. On any list like that, The Fly would have to be on it.

After the 1958 original that starred Vincent Price, David Cronenberg delivered a memorable remake.

In that film, Jeff Goldblum played scientist Seth Brundle whose experiments with teleportation go disgustingly wrong when his DNA is accidentally mixed with a fly’s. He begins transforming both physically and mentally into a giant fly creature.

The practical, and gross, special effects won an Oscar. The sequel was even gorier but didn’t get the recognition of the original.

Now comes news from Deadline that Nikyatu Jusu (Nanny) has begun development on a new film. The big news, this is not a reboot or a remake of The Fly.

It is set in the same universe as the Cronenberg film. Jusu will write and direct, and the project is set up at pen and direct the film for 20th Century Studios and Chernin Entertainment, with Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping producing.

Jusu is a horror specialist right now, with a black vampire day-Walker project (sounds familiar!) spinning up at Universal, and is in line for a sequel to a Night Of The Living Dead movie that is separate to the final Living Dead movie we reported on last week.
