Has Frank Drebin Jr. found his femme fatale? According to Deadline the former Baywatch actress, and Gen-X’s favorite pin-up, Pamela Anderson is set to join Liam Neeson in the Naked Gun reboot at Paramount.
This reboot is written by the duo behind Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. It is directed by the director of that movie, too – Akiva Schaffer.
Unconfirmed rumors say Neeson will play the son of Leslie Nielsen’s character Lt. Frank Drebin. The original Naked Gun movies were famous for their gag rate, with punchlines, sight gags, and deadpan wordplay happening in almost every frame.
The movies themselves were a reinvention of the TV series Police Squad! which ran for only six episodes.
Police Squad! aired as a mid-season replacement in March 1982, but was taken off the schedule after just four episodes. The remaining two episodes were dumped onto the summer schedule in place of the usual summer reruns. Against critical acclaim, the show was canceled by ABC after just six episodes. The show gained a strong cult following through repeat broadcasts on cable channels, and this led tot he characters returning for movies.
Those movies were smash hits. Made for a combined budget of less than $65 million, they grossed $476 million for famous producing partners Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker.
Outside of the famous red swimsuit, Anderson has been in a number of feature films and has shown decent comic timing.
Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins are producing the new film which will land in theaters on July 18th 2025.
