BLADE Loses Yet Another Director

Do you remember when Marvel was a well-oiled, smooth production line that simply purred? Those days seem long gone, and the news that Blade has lost yet another director will do nothing to change the view that the wheels have fallen off at the studio.

Actor Mahershala Ali has been cast as the lead for nearly five years. In that time he has seen everything change. Original director Bassam Tariq exited over “creative differences” just weeks before filming was to begin. There were rumors that things were simply unprepared for the shoot.

After a revolving door of talent, 71 director Yann Demange was apparently hand-picked by Ali to take over. New writers came and went. Scripts were reworked. A script was submitted that relegated Blade to a background character in his own movie behind a strong female character. This was rejected.

Demange stuck with it… until now.

The Wrap broke the news, but claims the split actually happened a while back.

Eric Pearson is the latest to try and take a stab at the script. Pearson came to Blade after Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Beau DeMayo, Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto, and Michael Green have all been and gone.

Blade has a November 7th 2025 release date, but the chances of that holding now are close to zero.
