BOOSTER GOLD Rumors Grow

There has been talk of a Booster Gold adaption for a long time. When James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU was first announced as Chapter One: Gods & Monsters, a Booster Gold adaption was one of the confirmed TV shows making up the small screen side of the universe.

Created by Dan Jurgens, he first appeared in Booster Gold #1 (February 1986) as a glory-seeking showboat from the future, staging high-publicity heroics through his knowledge of historical events and using futuristic technology. Booster’s real identity is Michael Jon “M.J.” Carter, and he develops through challenge and tragedy to eventually become a member of the Justice League.

After the announcement, there was little movement except for some speculative fan casting. Now comes speculation that it is moving forward quickly and could begin production soon.

Nexus Point News has now suggested that actor and comedian Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals, Ghostbusters Frozen Empire) has been cast. Scooper Daniel Richtman echoed this rumor. Neither Nanjiani nor Gunn have made any public announcements.

In the lore, Michael Jon Carter was born poor in 25th-century Gotham City. He and younger twin sister Michelle never knew their father because he left after gambling away all their money. Michael was a gifted athlete, attending Gotham University on a football scholarship.

At Gotham U, Michael was a star quarterback until his father reentered his life and convinced him to deliberately lose games for gambling purposes. He was exposed, disgraced, and expelled.

Later, he was able to secure a job as a night watchman at the Metropolis Space Museum, where he studied displays about superheroes and villains from 20th century and this set him on his path to becoming Booster Gold.
