CARRIE Is Back As A TV Series

I read the headline and did exactly what you are doing now. You’re rolling your eyes and thinking “Seriously? Why remake Carrie?”. As we know, Hollywood isn’t just scraping the barrel at this point, it’s now chopped up the barrel and using it as firewood.

There is a ‘however’ with this story though. It seems that Mike Flanagan wants to make it. This, at least, raised an eyebrow with me. Flanagan has had a good record with some of the series.

Flanagan-Netflix

The Haunting of Hill House was very good, as was Blyth Manor and Midnight Mass. I didn’t finish The Midnight Club, but The Fall of the House of Usher was great. Flanagan has worked on several of Stephen King’s novels, Carrie will ben another one.

Deadline reports that Flanagan is working with King on a screenplay for the series. It will be eight episodes and will be on Amazon Prime Video. Deadline said:

“They’re opening a writer’s room, so this one’s happening quickly.”

I remember that prom

Carrie was a story, from King, in 1974. Two years later Brian De Palma brought her to the screen, with Sissy Spacek playing the title role. It’s very iconic and the prom scene is one of the most memorable in cinema history.

There was a TV remake in 2002, starring Angela Bettis. A larger budget remake came out in 2013, starring Chloe Grace Moretz. I have seen this remake but couldn’t tell you a thing about it now. I only remember the original.

Flanagan has another King novel turned movie coming out, The Life of Chuck. The story is:

A life-affirming, genre-bending story based on Stephen King’s novella about three chapters in the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz.

There is an impressive cast for The Life of Chuck, Lauren LaVera, Molly C. Quinn, Heather Langenkamp, Matthew Lillard, Kate Siegal (shocker), Karen Gillian, David Dastmalchian, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Sara, Mark Hamill and Chiwetel Ejiofor. It’s due out sometime in 2025.
