CinemaCon: Paramount Shows MISSION, RUNNING MAN

Paramount Pictures took their turn at CinemaCon and gave an update on various projects, including a David Ayer-directed movie starring Brad Pitt called Heart of the Beast, and an untitled Trey Parker and Matt Stone project with Kendrick Lamar.

Then the big guns took over for the imminent headline titles. First up was Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning with a special trailer made for the Con. It showed off more of the bi-plane stunt. They confirmed that this is apparently the final entry in the franchise, and that as such there are big links back to previous installments.

Tom Cruise appeared and there was a moment of silence for Val Kilmer.

Then there was The Running Man where it was confirmed that Edgar Wright will veer much more closely to the original Richard Bachman (Stephen King) story where the chase takes place in the real world rather than any “Game Zone”. Wright was on stage alongside stars Glenn Powell, Colman Domingo, and Josh Brolin. The movie has wrapped filming and is now in post-production.

In this version, the game will be international and the hunters are “hired guns from all over the world” sent to track down Powell’s character.

Footage was shown including a hallway action fight, and a scene in an elevator with a grenade. Reports say the film looks nothing like the 1980s gameshow vibe of the Schwarzenegger movie.

Other films showing footage were Spongebob Squarepants: The Search For Square Pants and Channing Tatum’s crime drama Roofman.
