Good ol’ Gerry Butler. I don’t think I have ever had a truly bad time watching one of his movies. Sure, critics don’t line up to shower them with plaudits, but they are solid and reliable. They know what they are and who they are for. And Butler reliably growls his way, accent all over the place, through whatever they throw at him. Like Den Of Thieves.
The first movie dropped in 2018 and critics made unfair comparisons to Heat. Audiences, however, ate it up, pushing it to make back almost triple its budget.
A sequel has been in production for a while, and now the first trailer has dropped for Den of Thieves 2: Pantera.
In this installment, Big Nick (Butler) is chasing down Donnie Wilson (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) who has become embroiled in the treacherous and unpredictable world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia. They are plotting a massive heist of the world’s largest diamond exchange, and Big Nick will find himself pulled into this increasingly dark world.
Christian Gudegast is back as writer and director from the first movie. It stars Michael Bisping, Salvatore Esposito, Orli Shuka, Evin Ahmad, Cristian Solimeno, Nazmiye Oral, Yasen Zates Atour, Giuseppe Schillaci, Dino Kelly, Rico Verhoeven, Velibor Topic, and Antonio Bustorff.
Principal photography took place from April to July 2023 in the United Kingdom and the Canary Islands. The production transformed several aspects of the main streets in Santa Cruz de Tenerife for the shoot, such as building up a police station and jewelry store and setting up a local bar to appear French.
Den of Thieves 2: Pantera will be released in United States cinemas on January 15th 2025 from Lionsgate.
