ELDEN RING Rumor Causes Debate

Is it happening? Is it not happening? Opinions seem to vary, and an online disagreement seems to have started over whether an Elden Ring movie is really going to happen.

A report hit the internet yesterday that Civil War and Ex Machina writer/director Alex Garland is closing in on a deal to direct Elden Ring for A24. The report first appeared on Nexus Point News and was then taken down. Then The Verge chimed in, ripping into the original article and disparaging the source.

Then The InSneider got involved and said that Nexus was right, The Verge was wrong, there are talks.

Ladies, ladies, step away from the handbags!

If The InSneider is correct, then this marks a big departure for A24 into something way beyond the scope and scale of their usual projects.

Elden Ring takes place in the Lands Between, a realm influenced by entities called Outer Gods. Most prominent is the Greater Will, who created the Elden Ring – a collection of runes that govern the laws of reality. The Greater Will’s emissary, the Two Fingers, made a woman named Marika the Elden Ring’s vessel, ascending her to godhood.

She then formed a religion called the Golden Order alongside a consort, the Elden Lord; two held this title: Godfrey, a barbarian warlord banished for unknown reasons, and Radagon, Marika’s male alter ego. Marika also planted a massive golden tree called the Erdtree that graced the realm’s inhabitants.

This feels like it might involve some kind of mighty warhammer of Grumbletheaor… or something

Finally, she removed the Rune of Death from the Elden Ring and entrusted it to her wolf-like shadow, Maliketh, causing the deceased not to pass on but be reborn through the Erdtree instead.

I don’t know what any of that means, but it sounds like the kind of thing that could prevent a growing lad from ever seeing a real woman naked.

Elden Ring was once being targetted for Sony, with Game Of Thrones author George R.R. Martin interested in writing the adaption, which led to a chorus of “Just finish the damn book!” to ring out across the land.
