Digger

Final Trailer: DIGGER

Cruise is leaving behind Ethan Hunt, and taking a greatest hits tour with Top Gun 3 and Days of Thunder 2 in active development. Outside of this, he is preparing for the next phase of his career, one that will take in his 65th birthday. Part of this next phase is Digger.

Working with Birdman and The Revenant director Alejandro G. Inarritu, Digger will show Cruise in extensive make-up as a rich and powerful man in his twilight years, who has to help humanity face up to a catastrophic event that he helped create.

Now, Warner Bros. Pictures have released the final trailer for the upcoming movie:

Digger co-stars Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, Michael Stuhlbarg, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Robert John Burke, Burn Gorman, and Pip Torrens.

Inarritu co-wrote the screenplay with Nicolás Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris. He first conceived the idea of Digger following the completion of his film The Revenant (2015):

“I had an idea. Not a script, not a film, just a relentless, recurring obsession that has endured through all these years. I knew who this character was. I knew how he spoke, how he survived, how he seduced reality into agreeing with him. But it took me 10 years to do this film, because I wasn’t looking for a story. I was looking for the right way of saying it.”

In 2019, he began discussing the project with Cruise when he was filming Top Gun: Maverick. Cruise was a long-time fan, having seen Iñárritu’s directorial debut Amores perros (2000) in its initial release.

Digger is released in cinemas on October 2nd.
