The phenomenon that was Girls passed me almost entirely by. I think it landed and became a “thing” when I was living the high life as a single man between relationships so I never had to sit through it.
If it wasn’t for Adam Driver being cast in Star Wars, and Lena Dunham’s body positive social media postings going viral, I wouldn’t even have known it existed.
It is, however, back. HBO has confirmed that Girls will return with five new episodes as a limited revival.
My internet research tells me that the show followed four friends navigating the uncertainties of young adulthood in New York City, exploring their romantic relationships, professional ambitions, financial difficulties, and changing friendships… because of course it did, because girls.
The original show ended in 2017.
Dunham will return alongside Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, and Andrew Rannells.
Adam Driver is not yet announced as returning. He played the on-off boyfriend of character Hannah and their relationship was central.
Dunham had previously mentioned some on-set tension with Driver.
Girls is planned to shoot in 2027.
