GODZILLA MINUS ZERO Featurette

You all know the story by now. Back in 2023, Toho launched Godzilla Minus One, and it embarrassed Hollywood. Showing it up to be the bloated, tax-dodging, money-laundering, expensive operation it really is.

VFX whiz Takashi Yamazaki delivered breathtaking visuals on a budget of just $15 million. Meanwhile, at Hollywood’s most successful studio of the era:

MODOK-Marvel

It grossed $116 million and was the highest-grossing live-action film to debut in Japan during 2023. It would go on to become the third highest-grossing non-English-language film in the U.S. while winning awards and getting rave critical reviews.

Now, Toho and GKIDS Films have released a new featurette for the follow-up – Godzilla Minus Zero.

Yamazaki returns as writer/director and VFX supervisor again for this sequel, the third of the live-action Reiwa era movies after 2016’s Shin Godzilla and Minus One.

The previous movie took place in devastated post-WW2 Japan and the country had to reel again, this time from the devastation of Godzilla. Godzilla Minus Zero takes place two years later in 1949 as Japan tries to put both war and monsters behind it. Any peace is short-lived when Godzilla returns again.

Godzilla Minus Zero opens in theaters this November.
