There is no doubt about it, the upcoming HBO adaptation of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter stories is highly anticipated television. The books remain timeless children’s classics that rapidly grow into something much deeper and darker as the main characters age. Even though not in the target audience, the technical craft on display to bring the world of Potter to life will be something worth seeing.
Letting the stories breathe through long-form television, including huge amounts of detail left out from the novels for the movie adaptations, adds another layer.
Now, HBO have released the second teaser trailer for what is billed as a faithful retelling of the novels.
This first season will adapt the first novel – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – and we get to see a lot more of what is in store in this second trailer. There are better looks at Quidditch, and we see the invisibility cloak.
The series is led by Dominic McLaughlin as the titular character, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The major cast is filled out by John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, and Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Gracie Cochrane as Ginny Weasley, Tristan Harland as Fred Weasley, and Gabriel Harland as George Weasley.
Harry Potter arrives on HBO on Christmas Day.
