Scream kicked off a resurgence of teenage horror movies. One of them was I Know What You Did Last Summer, and still holds the record for the longest horror movie title ever.
The original I Know What You Did Last Summer came out in 1997 and starred Sarah Michelle Geller, Freddie Prince Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Phillippe, Muse Watson, Bridge Wilson-Sampras, Jonny Galecki and Anne Heche.
Kevin Williamson, who wrote and was hot property after penning Scream. In fact, he wrote the screenplay for I Know What Y…(I’m just going to call it Summer from now on), for Summer, before he wrote Scream. With the success of Scream, he was able to sell Summer with no problems.
The original story for Summer is:
Four young friends bound by a tragic accident are reunited when they find themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding maniac in their small seaside town.
Let’s face it, there are only two reasons why we remember the original. Both of them belonged to Jennifer Love Hewitt.
There was a sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and, to my surprise, a third one, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer in 2006. Has anyone seen it? I doubt it as it was straight to video. It starred none of the original cast. There was also a TV show, but that’s news to me.
This new remake/reboot/sequel is called I Never Know What You Did Last Summer and Prince Jr., and Love Hewitt are back. No news about Phillippe or Michelle Geller.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is serving as writer and director. Her last movie was Do Revenge, which I couldn’t finish. It was far too aimed at the ‘modern audience’ and just terrible. She always wrote Thor: Love and Thunder.
It’s looking like I Still Always Remember What You Know You Did Last Summer might be DOA.
