A new body horror is on the way: The Ugly Stepsister. We were sent a trailer and allowed to put it on our YouTube channel.
The Ugly Stepsister stars Lea Myren, Thea Sofie Lock Næss, Ane Dahl Torp, Isac Calmroth, Malte Gardinger, Ralph Carlsson and Katarzyna Herman. Emillie Blichfeldt is the writer and director. The story:
Follows Elvira as she battles against her gorgeous stepsister in a realm where beauty reigns supreme. She resorts to extreme measures to captivate the prince, amidst a ruthless competition for physical perfection.
Loosely based on Charles Perrault’s original story, Cinderella. The Ugly Stepsister is a dark adaptation which really shows “how much pain beauty is”. If I wanted to know that, I would look on Tiktok for 20 minutes.
Described as “Bridgerton meets The Substance”, it’s going to be a dark comedy, very dark by the looks of it.
Original Fairy Tales were a lot darker than we were led to believe; some of the Brothers Grimm stories were NSFW and definitely not for kids. It was Disney that turned them all cute and cuddly.
This version of Cinderella doesn’t seem to shy away from the gruesome, even I was winching during the trailer. Someone mentioned that they showed how one of the stepsisters cuts her own toes off to make the slipper fit. Just buy a bigger pair of slippers, love.
The Ugly Stepsister will be in US cinemas on the 18th of April and in the UK on the 25th of April. It does look interesting.
