These Jumanji reboot movies have been way better than anyone expected them to be. Tremendous fun, and actually funny. Of course, I could just be blinded by the sheer weight of The Rock’s charisma and Karen Gillan in short-shorts.
Anyway, a third instalment is now ready to go, and ahead of the trailer being attached to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Sony Pictures has released it online.
Jumanji: Open World will be the last movie in this trilogy, after Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in 2017 and Jumanji: The Next Level in 2019. These remade/rebooted the original Robin Williams-led movie.
This time around, the characters from the game have escaped the world of Jumanji and are in the real world. So Tron: Ares with more monkeys, and less Jared Leto.
Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan all return, along with the same actors that have played their “players” all along – Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, and Ser’Darius Blain. Danny DeVito, Nick Jonas, Awkwafina, Marin Hinkle, Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris and Rhys Darby all return as co-stars.
Wait… Ser’Darius Blain? Ser’Darius? Really? Well… fuck me! Anyway…
New joiners are Burn Gorman, Brittany O’Grady, Tony Curran, Elena Sanchez, Dan Hildebrand, and Jack Jewkes. Jake Kasdan, who directed the first two reboot films, returns. He co-wrote with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.
Jumanji: Open World lands in cinemas on Christmas Day.
