Not really news, as we knew this was probably going to happen, but Backrooms 2 has been confirmed by A24. Kane Parsons, the original creator, will be back writing and directing.
I say it’s no surprise, since Backrooms was a sleeper hit for A24 this year. Made on a budget of about $10 million, the movie ended up being one of the profitable movies for A24. It finished its run at the box office just short of $400 million.
I have said I’m a fan of Backrooms before it was cool; see my review. It will be interesting to see what Parsons does with a second movie. If you know the YouTube series, you know there is a lot more that meets the eye with the eerie yellow rooms.

The question was whether Parsons was going to go straight into a sequel, or something different beforehand. According to reports, Parsons and his mentor, Osgood Perkins, had been working on another project.
Perkins is best known for movies like Longlegs, The Monkey, and The Blackcoat’s Daughter. Perkins produced Backrooms and worked with Parsons to bring the movie to the big screen.
Personally, I’m interested in seeing how Parsons will develop the lore. As I said, in the YouTube videos, it goes to some interesting places. They usually leave you with more questions than answers, but I like that. If Parsons has a plan for the movies, I’m happy to see him expand them.
